Kids will be kids!!!

For the last week, Noah has hardly taken a bottle. I finally broke down and called the doctor again yesterday. Last night after they closed, she called me back to ask some questions. Basically, her advice was to move him up to 4 meals of solid food a day and increase cereal, and fruits mainly to keep his calorie intake up so he doesn't lose weight since he wouldn't hardly take a bottle. So, he had cereal and fruit for dinner last night. After dinner I pulled out some old bottles and decided I'd try a fast flow bottle just to see what he does. It had been about a month since I tried it the last time and he gagged on it, so I decided he wasn't ready and stuck with the medium flow nipple. This time, he took 5 1/2 oz at bedtime. This morning I gave him a bottle first and he took 5 1/2 oz and then had his cereal with about 2 oz of formula in it as well. For lunch he had a vegetable and the little bit of fruit he didn't eat last night for dinner. He wouldn't take but about an ounce after that so I let him settle for a couple of hours and tried again. He took 4 oz and acted again like it was coming out a little too fast for him, so I added just enough cereal to his bottle that it wasn't pouring out and he finished off the last 2 that was in the bottle. For dinner, I gave him a vegetable and a fruit and he ate almost all of it. Before bedtime he took a little over 6 oz before he fell asleep. I know we aren't out of the woods yet, but today was definitely an improvement and about the most he's taken from a bottle in several months...probably since he's started on solid foods. I hope this is going to work and he will be fine, but we will see. Both of the boys have been picky eaters with formula it seems...or nosy. Leon wouldn't ever take a bottle at daycare cause he was too nosy to eat so he really only took what he took at home other than maybe 6 oz total he took at daycare. Noah is still not taking what the doctor wants him to take, but I'm ok with it as long as he is staying hydrated. He has been in the past week, but not like he was today by any means!! Hopefully all we needed was a faster flow nipple...time will tell!
