2 Doctor Visits in 1 Week!
WOW...we've spent a lot of money on medical bills and prescriptions, and possibly a machine this week! Leon went to the doctor on Monday for his 9 month checkup. He had his cold...so, whatever, right?? Well, he just kept coughing and coughing. Wednesday, daycare called and said he is coughing so much he's making himself sick. I personally have never done this but could imagine how sore his ribs, throat and whole body are from coughing. He has got to be exhausted. He had also been running the 101+ fever as well, SO, I did what any mother would do, called the doctor back on Wednesday. They of course wanted to see him which turned out to be a VERY good thing. He was very wheezy. So, I did a breathing treatment in the doctor's office because she wanted to make sure that it would work before sending us home and knowing if she'd have to resort to plan B. So, we did the breathing treatment and then about 10 minutes later she came back in to listen to his lungs and sure enough, it had helped. He was still wheezy because not one treatment will cure anyone, but at least we knew it would work. So, we borrowed the nebulizer from the doctors office, got his prescription for albuterol and off we went. He really does a GREAT job with the whole thing. She had mentioned him possibly having asthma, but nobody on either side of the family has it. My cousin is the closest, and that's it. So, that's something we'll have to discuss. He may not ever have to have another treatment after he's done with this and I'm really hoping he doesn't, let alone that he has asthma...because that, I just don't know how to deal with. It's an extremely scary thing with children, especially infants! So, she wrote me a prescription for the nebulizer too but we obviously didn't fill it because we're borrowing theirs. Like I said, I'm hoping that we don't ever have to use one again, but nobody knows what is in store for us either.
He sounds MUCH better after having them for 2 days now. He is still coughing some but not near what he was before. This weekend he will stay home all weekend to rest. He really needs it after the week he's had! He is still a little rattly sounding, but he's been like that before. When he coughs, you can tell it's productive and then it goes away, but it's just getting him to "clear" his throat more often. He sounds about 90% better than he did before though. He seems to be breathing easier, except for when he plays...he tends to get somewhat winded, but who doesn't when they are working harder? I know I do! So, as he gets older, I'll update more on the asthma update. Next weekend we're suppose to go to the zoo. I'm just hoping that he cooperates and is good about the whole thing. I don't know why he wouldn't be. Wish us luck on him feeling better and hopefully never having to turn to albuterol again...but if he does, we have a plentiful supply...just have to fork over $140 for the machine if it happens on a weekend again! Kids...don't they know how to work around weekends so it's cheaper?!?! Someday they'll learn.
