Not so good

Noah

Noah happy as can be without his tube

Leon holding Noah

This is how short Leon is compared to the rest of the kids in his class at preschool. This was at their Christmas program. He's in the middle...little short blonde haired kid!

Today was Noah's 4th swallow study in just as many months. He again would NOT even suck on the darn bottle! I think he's more girlish and doesn't want to eat in front of people for some reason. I don't really get it. They told us we have the option of going with the g tube instead of the ng tube. Since he has his surgery scheduled for Monday, I am going to wait for a couple of weeks after his surgery and see how he's doing and then call the doctor's office where his developmental pediatrician is. I'm going to tell him what is going on. At home he consistently takes 1 oz and has taken up to 2 before, but 1 is usually the norm for him. He won't take a bottle in front of people right now. I may try to get his opinion on what he wants me to do and when he wants him to come in for another swallow study. The g tube would be in for a minimum of 3 months and up to 6 months after he is taking everything by mouth. I can't see putting him through another surgery if it's not necessary, but I also don't want him to get that use to having the ng tube down his throat either. It de-sensitizes their swallow after about 3 months. They recommend putting a g tube in after 3 months because of that reason. I also don't like seeing him with the tape on his face all the time either. I'm torn between the two. I just don't know what I want to do yet. It really will depend on what he is doing after his surgery. I plan on researching both types and then going with whichever one is best for him. I have pros and cons for each one, but just have to make a decision. I did ask how long it would take to get him scheduled in to have it put in if we chose to do that and she said if we scheduled it today he could get in my mid next week, so it's not a lengthy process to get him in. I believe it's an outpatient operation as well. The urologist isn't worried about having the hydroceles taken down now. She said as long as they aren't getting bigger, which they aren't, and they aren't pushed up into his pubic bone area, that there wasn't anything to worry about and to come back at a year. It would have made my decision easy if he was going to have to have that surgery, I'd have them do the g tube then so he wouldn't have to have more anesthesia than necessary. They only want to do the surgery on his head and that's it on Monday just because it is a neurosurgery type thing I guess. I'm beginning to wonder if I should be more worried than I am because of that, but with it normally being done as outpatient, it eases my mind a little that it's not "too" big of a deal. He is only staying over night because he's so small. That's the disappointing information I found out today. Today was extremely rough on me going through yet another swallow study with him not doing a thing is really starting to stress me out! I hope he passes next time that's for sure! I'm ready for cereal and baby food darn it!
