4 months old
Leon was 4 months old on Friday! I can't believe how old he's getting and how fast he's growing. Leon can do so many things now it seems. He can do the following based on the "what to expect the first year" book:
1. on stomach, lift head up 90 degrees
2. laugh out loud
3. follow an object
4. hold head steady when upright
5. raise chest when on stomach
6. grasp a rattle/teether
7. reach for an object
8. squeal
9. turn in the direction of a voice
10. makes vowel-consonant combinations
11. razz-he does this ALL the time!
12. object if you try to take a toy away-sometimes
He is trying so hard to roll over but hasn't quite gotten it yet. He gets halfway there on his back and his belly. Since he sleeps on his belly he hates "tummy time" which is making it somewhat difficult. Grandma and grandpa bought him a mirror with toys on it similar to the one he plays with at daycare and it has helped so far. He likes staying on his belly a little longer without getting really upset about it. On his back, he gets completely on his side and then goes right back to his back after a few seconds. On his belly, he always leaves one arm straight out which doesn't allow him to roll over. We try to move it but he always moves it right back. It can get frustrating but he'll do it when he's ready. You can't make them do something if they aren't ready to.
We discovered today he has a tooth on the bottom that is starting to break through the skin! Yeah!!! He has been drooling forever now it seems. He has one on each side on top that you can feel "bumps" and then he has a bump on the bottom and his bottom front one you can feel through the skin...it's quite sharp too I might add. As soon as it comes in, I'll have pictures I'm sure!!!!!! Hopefully we'll have his first tooth in really soon. He really has done well with the teething process so far. He hasn't ran a fever or been really fussy either. I think it was disturbing his sleep some at night, so for a few nights I gave him Tylenol or Motrin and he slept so much sounder. It was just enough to take the edge off so he could sleep well. I'm so glad he wasn't running a fever though. He will look so cute once his tooth is in enough that you can see it though. I promise to post pictures then. :)
He goes to the doctor next Wednesday for his shots and his 4-month checkup. He is suppose to start cereal then. We are having some issues as far as daycare goes and him eating. I don't know if he's just so interested in everything else going on around him or if they try to feed him too early sometimes or what, but he doesn't eat well at daycare. He eats great for me at home though. The past couple of days, most of his "meals" have been around 7-8 ounces. He has been eating 6 ounces up until the past week or so when every once in a while he wants 7 or so. It's not very often, but sometimes he does. He must finally be getting over this 6 ounce thing. He's been eating 6 ounces for about 2 months. At daycare he doesn't eat well at all though. Sometimes, he'll have a good one where he'll be close to 6 and then he only eats like 3...I just don't get it. I've tried telling them to only feed him every 4 hours like he does at home and it still doesn't work. I seriously think he's just so interested in everything that is going on around him that he "forgets" to eat or something. He eats fine for me at home so I don't know what's up with that. He'll improve eventually I guess. I just hope that his weight gain stays steady like it should be.
Well, I will update more later. That's the newest information going on in our lives. As soon as we get our tax check, Skip will be able to quit his second job...FINALLY!!! He is SO excited and I really am too. I miss having him home in the evenings...and awake. He's usually sleeping and doesn't get to spend much time with Leon. This will give him some more time with him while I can get a few more things done around the house. Come on...tax check!!!
